Hour of Code Continues in France

As part of our #tptomorrow initiative and prior to COVID-19, we hosted face-to-face Hour of Code sessions for school children local to our offices across Europe.

It was a real pleasure to teach basic coding skills to students, and we wanted to give our own children the chance to join in the fun. Working from home with children comes with unique challenges and we felt that we could tap into their curiosity about our working lives to find out why we do what we do and how we do it. Our French team were quick to recognise we had a great resource already in place and decided to provide Hour of Code for the Thinkproject team’s children, remotely via video chat.

Our first Hour of Code session dubbed ‘Made in France’ was a resounding success. The goal was to provide educational (and fun) ways for Thinkproject families to learn a bit of code and find out more about Thinkproject, the AEC industry in general, all the while learning valuable coding skills for the future.

Our students created pictures to use in a memory game, which they then helped to program on the Scratch platform. Something which is now available for our tpKids to play whenever they want.

The ‘Hour of Code™’ is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week [csedweek.org] and Code.org [code.org] to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.
