Keep it simple doesn't mean simple as in basic or unsophisticated, it means cutting through the complexity to help support your objectives. It means working smart, not hard. This concept of "keep it simple" is sometimes hard to put your finger on, but when we see it and when we witness things not being simple we know it and feel it.
We can draw inspiration from others to keep it simple. There is a story about Thomas J Watson, who was a long time CEO of IBM. At an uninspiring staff meeting he once said, "the trouble with every one of us is that we don't think enough. We don't get paid for working with our feet - we get paid for working with our heads." He then wrote the word "THINK" on an easel and nothing else. Asked later what he meant by the slogan Watson replied, "by think I mean take everything into consideration. I refuse to make the sign more specific. If someone just sees THINK, they'll find out what I mean. We're not interested in a logic course."
So next time you feel like a busy fool, stop, think and keep it simple by following that straight-line path from A to B.
