Building Conversion for The University of Lausanne

Country / Region Switzerland
Industry Education

The Project

In 2010 baumag generalbau ag were commissioned to convert a former furniture factory into a new building for the University of Lausanne (UNIL), with an estimated value of 80-million Euros. Upon completion in 2012 the 28,000 m2 site was transformed into a new build for students, professors and researchers of the Faculty of Geosciences & Environment, and the Faculty of Social & Political Sciences.

One of the greatest challenges for any project is communication. It was intrinsic to the project that all team members were able to convey information in a clearly defined and easy to understand way.

The thinkproject online project collaboration platform enabled the participants in this project to structure their entire communications – including the administration of all documents, drawings, plans and meeting minutes. All information was stored centrally and will remain accessible in years to come.

Upon conclusion of the project, all material was consolidated clearly and transparently to form complete documentation. This can then be provided for ongoing maintenance of the building.
