The Project
Dounreay Site Restoration's use of the CEMAR platform delivers innovation and efficiency in following their mission with contracts administered across NEC ECC, PSC & TSC forms. A complex site and sequencing of works requires diligent oversight and reporting for all contracts. DSRL utilise the CEMAR system's frameworks and divisions tagging, embedded in the system and configured in the CEMAR Analytics reporting tool, in order to aggregate reporting consistently with scheduling and cost reporting across the site.

The Outcome
Over 30,000 communications have been managed by implementing the CEMAR tool, and we continue to provide close support to the teams as they continue the delicate operation of decommissioning and making safe the 60-year-old experimental nuclear facility.

The Client
Dounreay Site Restoration Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Cavendish Dounreay Partnership Ltd, a consortium of Cavendish Nuclear, CH2M and AECOM. It is funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to deliver the site closure programme. Today, Dounreay is a site of construction, demolition and waste management, all of it designed to return the site to an interim end state. The experimental nature of many of its redundant facilities means the clean-up and demolition requires innovation as well as great care.

DSRL's vision is for “Dounreay to be recognised as the European Reference Site for nuclear decommissioning” and they aim to achieve this by following a mission “To responsibly deliver the Interim End State within the target cost and time and support the transition of our people”.


DSRL implemented CEMAR to assist with management reporting requirements and adhering to timescales in the NEC contract but we got so much more benefit than we expected. Contract compliance has increased, administration time has significantly decreased and both the projects and the site has valuable real time management information for reporting and to help make decisions. Further, our own staff and the contractor staff are learning more about the NEC contracts by using the system. The CEMAR team has been very helpful with training, awareness and problem solving and I would recommend the system to any business that uses the NEC suite of contracts on a daily basis.
