The Project
The project planning and construction compromised of two large builds, the Kigali Convention Centre and Hotel Kivu, situated in the Rwanda capital of Kigali. This also included an expansive six-floor, 292-room hotel, a 32,200m2 retail and commercial space, plus a museum. Construction began in 2009 and was completed in 2016.
Challenges
At one point, 55 project participants were involved in the planning phase, including 13 subcontractors and 10 other partners. It was crucial to be able to update all participants in real-time and keep everyone up to date as to avoid costly delays or errors.
Solutions
Spacial Solutions decided to use thinkproject as their online collaboration platform for both the builds, solving the problem of all project partners having access to the most current plans, whether based in Rwanda or Germany.
Outcome
Completed in 2016, the convention centre was opened by Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame. The greatest advantage of implementing the thinkproject platform was that it guaranteed a rapid, and seamless, exchange of project documents to support this complex build.
