Project
In 2007, OMV Petrom began relocation of its headquarters Petrom City to near the Straulesti Lake in the north of Bucharest. As the largest oil and gas producer in south-east Europe, approx. 2,500 employees made the move to their new workspace, which was completed in 2011. The new site provides support to the whole of OMV and its branches around the world.
General contractor Alpine Romania S.A and architect ajf & Partner worked with OMV Petrom on the new site, consisting of five buildings, which includes a computer centre and a small power station.
Challenges
The project needed to house thousands of employees in a modern, comfortable environment whilst also retaining a level of security. Being an ambitious, five-build site comes with a level of complexity that makes it crucial that communication lines remain open to ensure the project was delivered on time and on budget.
The added addition of many employees waiting to relocate can put pressure on any project, that makes it important to have a management system to take care of the administrative duties facing project managers, contractors, and beyond.
Solutions
The thinkproject online project collaboration platform was used for the project document management, including for repro orders and all project communication. With communications updated in real-time the margin of error was decreased, whilst providing a fully auditable trail that continued to benefit throughout the different project phases. The platform supported all project phases- from pre-planning and submission, through to handover to OMV Petrom.
